国会大厦警察局长桑德（Steven Sund）7日表示，警察局之前为民众表达自由的示威游行做好准备，但并没想到会发生暴力袭击。这是他30年执法生涯3中从未经历过的。
《美联社》7日下午报道指出，在众议院议长佩洛西呼吁桑德辞职后，桑德已于7日辞职。他的辞职将于1月16日生效。
