一向拒绝口罩的美国总统特朗普本周一突然改口，他高调发推表示“有人说戴口罩是爱国的，没人比我更爱国！”
特朗普在推特上表示，“很多人说，当你无法保持社交距离时，戴口罩是爱国行为。没有人比我更爱国，你们最喜欢的总统！”

特朗普在推文中再次使用“中国病毒”的字眼也引起抗议，华裔医生Eugene Gu 立刻留言抗议“请停止将新冠病毒称为中国病毒，并鼓励白人至上主义者在街上殴打我的亚裔兄弟姐妹，同时在他们的日常生活中不人道地欺负他们。为了政治影响像这样背叛我们不合情理，我们都是人类！”

自今年3月新冠疫情爆发以来，特朗普从不愿公开戴口罩。6月下旬以来，美国两党许多政要敦促特朗普应以身作则，向民众展示戴口罩对防止新冠病毒传播的重要性。
直到本月11日特朗普在参观马里兰州的国家军事医疗中心时，首次公开戴上了口罩。
